More model informationThis pair of shoes, with padded silk bows at the front, reputedly belonged to Queen Marie Antoinette of France who died in 1793. However, these are probably English, handmade reproductions of the mid-19th century, when the mechanisation of shoemaking was becoming common.
The shoes are made of fine leather in a rather peculiar shade of green, with heels covered in red leather and lined in white linen. There are a number of these shoes known and they show the art of the shoemaker in their fine stitching. They are made as straights, meaning they are not shaped for the left or right foot.
