Mould-made pottery lamp decorated on the discus with a goat. The shoulder is decorated with a band of impressed ovules; an air-hole is marked. The nozzle is flanked by two ring-and-dot patterns, and has a raised point in the re-entrant angle. At the rear is a ring handle. In the centre of the raised base is a ring-and-dot pattern. Covered with a yellow to red-brown (overfired) slip over a white slip. It is damaged on the side. Previously part of the Kent collection, which was bequeathed to Harrogate Museum in 1968. This type of lamp was produced in Ephesus (Turkey) c. 98–192 AD, although according to this Kent catalogue this one comes from Egypt.
