More model informationThis is a new asset I have created from scratch for the “Medieval Engineers” game/software. I am creating a set of late Roman arms & armor, suitable for dressing up a 3rd Century Hadrian’s Wall fort. I have begun with this shield. Unlike the well-known red-painted curved “scutum” used by legionaries, auxiliary units tended to use oval, flat-fronted shields like this one. Such shields by the 3rd C were made of wooden planks held together by braces on the back, and then held even tighter by a strip of rawhide around the edges, which shrank when dried. In the game, this model also uses progressively less-detailed LODs so that, from a distance, each shield uses only 56 triangles, making it extremely low-impact.
