More model informationThis large whale vertebra was found in the outer bailey kitchen at Launceston Castle, Cornwall. It dates from the period 1227–1337, the time when the castle was owned by Henry III’s brother Richard, Earl of Cornwall (1209–72), and his successors. Its size suggests that it came from a larger species such as the blue whale, fin whale or sperm whale.
