More model informationDecorated lid of a lead coffin, discovered in 1902 by builders in Burleigh Road, Enfield, together with two lead canisters containing cremations. The coffin was sadly “considerably disturbed” by the workmen and the remains within “fell to pieces on removal” and so have not survived, but the coffin and canisters are now on permanent display in the Dugdale Centre, Enfield Town. The oyster shell and rope decoration may have had religious significance, and have been found on other Roman coffins elsewhere in London.
