An Australian dinosaur walks again?! Leaellynasaura amicagraphica (‘Leaellyn’s friend writing lizard’) was a small herbivorous ornithopod dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous of Victoria, Australia (122.46 - 109 million years ago). They lived in a polar Australia that was much further south on the globe, dealt with darkness that would last for months, and had a remarkably long tail (>90 verts).
This 3D skeletal reconstruction was created by Jac O’Connor in Blender (v3.4) as a tool for the Dinosaur Dreaming team to utilise for science communication. Jac utilised a novel morphing method to reconstruct some of the missing axial bones.
The vast majority of this model was based on the osteology of Hypsilophodon foxii, 3D models of the Leaellynasaura holoytype, and reconstructions created by Alana Sharp. This reconstruction was advised by Ruairidh Duncan and the creator thanks Tom Rich and Patricia Vickers-Rich.
