More model informationThis iron spearhead is leaf-shaped in form with the broadest section close to the bottom of the blade and the shoulders sloping to the socket, which is missing.
The form is similar to the narrow, leaf-shaped Roman blade group which is described by Manning, and also the (Swanton) Group C2 which is commonly found in Anglo-Saxon graves. These two groups both describe blades of a medium length, approximately 200-350mm, with the broadest part of the blade in the lower half of the blade.
The spearhead was recovered from a Late Roman context and therefore a Roman date is likely, although an Anglo-Saxon date cannot be discounted.
