My first character model
For an assignment at AIE, I was to create in 3d the concept art from Alex Braun of this little leopard gecko hunter. I needed to sculpt the model, retopologise it, set it up for animation (rigging) and then pose it to display on sketchfab. We were limited to a relatively low poly count (2600 tris) for the base mesh of the gecko, which was quite a clever challenge to start tuning us to the concepts of efficiency and texture planning. We didn’t have the same limit on the accessories, which were really just to make if we had the time. I added the base towards the end because I was really having fun with it all and didn’t want it to end - and I’m glad I did, because it took me through many tricky problems in substance painter, the result of which being that I’m starting to think of more interesting ways to use the smart systems it has to offer.
I really enjoyed making this, and I learnt so much - and I’m super excited for my next project.
