Bone: Maxillae Age: Middle Adult Sex: Male
Pathology description
The alveolar bone is beginning to absorb anteriorly at prosthion. Although there is post-mortem damage, evidence remains of partial absorption of the nasal spine. For the nasal aperture, only slight rounding is evident in the visible inferior portion. The floor of the nasal cavity has extensive pitting with new compact and woven bone formation, which has a focus at midline around the septal base. The lateral wall of the right maxillary sinus is covered in a thin layer of compact bone. There is pitting on the visible right orbital floor anteromedially. The palate has extensive fine pitting, much of which is focused anterolaterally, intermixed with an abnormal number of larger pits. These changes are indicative of rhinomaxillary syndrome associated with leprosy
