Torso of a statuette of Liber Pater with the rest of the thyrsus staff in front of the left upper arm. Long wavy strands of hair fall over both shoulders. The musculature is well proportioned, the nipples are indicated. Marble, dimensions: 37 x 20,5 x 11 cm.
Liber is the Roman god of vegetative and animal fertilization and the god of wine. In honor of Libers, the Romans celebrated on March 17, the Liberalia. At this festival, the young men were first given the men’s toga (garment of the free Roman citizen) as a sign of majority.
