3D Model

This is a first test of using a Mavic Mini drone for photogrammetry. The model was created using 137 images extracted from 1080p footage from the drone. Four of the drone’s built in “circle quick shots” were used at different heights. This was also a first test of the AliceVision Meshroom software for 3D model creation.

The area modelled is about 15m x 15m. An example image, ( including drone pilot! ) :

There are obviously improvements to be made:

1. Use the higher resolution video from the drone, 2.7K ( 2704x1520 pixels ) rather than 1080p ( 1920 x 1080 pixels )
2. Use more images from the video for the 3D re-creation
3. Reduce the video shutter speed to get sharper images
4. Experiment with the Meshroom settings

However, as a first test with everything “out of the box”, I was very pleased and the whole process worked fine.
