3D scan of the skull of a lion (Panthera leo).

The lion (Panthera leo) is the second largest felid of the world after the tiger, as well as one of the best known animals in the world. The males, larger and more powerful than females, reach 250 cm in length and 225 kg in weight and are characterized by the showy mane that is lacking in females. They feed on every animal present on their habitat, from small antelopes to large buffaloes. The approximately 30,000 existing specimens are found today in the savannahs of sub-Saharan Africa and in a restricted area of western India.

Specimen: lion, Panthera leo (Linnaeus, 1758)

Inventory number: C 1797
