Bronze alloy, 144 x 121 x 95mm, East Iran / Afghanistan, 12th - 13th century
This lion’s head from the Bumiller Collection was part of an incense burner in the form of a wildcat in openwork. The head was attached to the body with a hinge and could be opened and filled with incense. The neck is decorated with a band engraved with blessings in Arabic script.
The model was created using structured light scanning and photogrammetry by students on the University of Bamberg’s Digital Denkmaltechnologie (Digital Technologies in Heritage Conservation) Masters programme during their 2019 practical week.
Geometry was acquired with an Artec Spider scanner, and the textures via photogrammetry/SfM. Artec Studio, Agisoft Metashape and Geomagic Wrap were used to process the data.
