The King of Beasts! 10 Ft long and as heavy as 400lbs and more. The only of the cat family with a mane. Thought to protect the neck and body during fights towards having a new pride(group of lions). Although females do not have manes, most of the work such as hunting, child bearing, and nursing are done by the lioness. They tend to like the males with darker manes studies show. The males usually separate from their pride as early as 2 to 4 years due to eviction from other males who are strong and take over while the females stay. The evicted males either survive on their own to one day take a pride in the future or die off. With or without eviction they are the most sociable of the all the feline family. The main job of the male is to protect the territory of its pride.
