More model informationThe Berthier rifle was designed when the french called for a new rifle to replace the 1886 Lebel. This was requested due to the operation quirks and overall length of the Lebel being widely criticized by soldiers.
The Berthier saw success among troops who vasly prefered it’s functionality and ease of use over the Lebel. Dispite this, the Lebel continued to be fielded alongside the Bertheir during WW1.
The rifle would see some use during the beginning ww2 but was ultimately phased out in favour of the MAS 36.
