The Lighthouse (or Pharos) of Alexandria was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Built in the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt ca. 280 BCE, it was an engineering marvel and for many centuries one of the tallest structures in the world, estimated at more than 100 meters high.
The lighthouse was severely damaged by earthquakes between 956 and 1323 CE and fell into ruin. In 1480, its remnant stones were used to build the Citadel of Qaitbay.
The lighthouse complex likely incorporated both Hellenistic and Egyptian architectural elements. Statuary included four tritons and Poseidon or Zeus at top. Evidence for the lighthouse’s appearance comes from Roman coins, accounts by classical and Arab travelers, and other sources.
I’m exploring the idea of creating a low-poly asset pack of all seven wonders; leave a comment if this would interest you.
