The Lions Club Horn presents 20 lion statues in 20 communities in the Horn district under the motto “The lions are loose”. The charity campaign aims to bring together communities, business and culture. The life-size statues were individually designed by 20 regional artists, taking into account the sponsors from the business community. The annual sponsorship money is used to fund projects from the participating communities.
This lion is located on the main square of Eggenburg. It was designed by Matthias Laurenz Gräff. The lion acts as a carrier of a humanistic, socially just and ethical state of mind. Portraits of Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, the XIV Dalai Lama, Mikhail Gorbachev and Bertha von Suttner as well as Nelson Mandela, John Lennon, Jane Goodall with a monkey and Sigmund Freud decorate the back. On the forehead a dove of peace.
