An interesting stone carving from Co. Mayo. This craving is associated with a children’s burial ground within an early ecclesiastical enclosure.
Roughly triangular stone slab displaying a series of carved features. Two small cup-marks are placed either side of a central human figure, with two hands raised. Two concentric circles enclosing a latin cross, with four small circular depressions. Below this legs, or the lower half of the figure wearing a robe.
A diamond-shape feature in to bottom left-hand corner with four intersecting diagonal lines, and on the right-hand corner a cross surrounded by a faint circle.
It is possible the carving is multi-phase with the cup-marks representing an early date, and the crosses and figure added at different times.
