Michel Angelo Buonarotti. The Mother of God with the Son and St. John the Child, mold from the Simu Museum, now in the Museum of the School of Architecture. Plaster after the original marble. A similar piece is found at the Minovici Museum of Western Art in Bucharest. The original is at the National Museum in Florence. The Tondo Pitti medallion was executed at the command of Bartolomeo Pitti between 1503 and 1504. Michelangelo appears to have been influenced by the lost carton of Sant’Anna de Leonardo da Vinci, exposed at Annunziata in those years. The crude contours, due to the unfinished nature of the work, emphasize an atmospheric effect similar to Leonardo.
