Magdalene Laundry Ironing Room

Model of the laundry ironing room (now demolished) at the former Magdalene Laundry on Sean MacDermott St, Dublin. The Laundry closed in 1996, and this room, along with all other the other parts of the complex connected with the operation of the industrial laundry were demolished following a fire in 2006.

This interior reconstruction is primarily based on a postcard photograph from c.1925 as well as oral testimony from former Magdaene Women, as recorded in the Magdalene Oral History Project (2013). Excepts of these testimonies are now displayed with this reconstruction to give the reader some insight into what went on behind the high walls of the laundry, as experienced by those confined within.
