The Maiden Stone is a Class II Pictish Stone located near Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. It is decorated with a variety of Pictish symbols, including beasts and a notched rectangle, but also boasts an array of intricate carved knot-work and ornate spirals. Local legend has it that the stone gets its name from a maiden who on fleeing from the Devil was turned to stone by God, but the Devil caught her shoulder and this why there is a notch.
