Mangwijeong Pavilion was built around 1750 by Jang Chang-woo, the ancestors of Hongseong Jang clan. Jang Chang-woo, who lived in Namwon, North Jeolla Province, built this pavilion to teach academics and use it as a shelter in the village after moving to this Dongha village. The name “Mangwijeong” means spending the rest of his life with nature.
Later in 1934, his descendants, Mukam, Jangan-seop and others rebuilt the pavilion at the old site of Mangwijeong Pavilion. The building has a hipped-and-gabled roof with two spaces on the front and two spaces on the side.
Mangwijeong Pavilion is a place where Jangan-seop and others formed a group called “Mangwijeongsi Post-Hae” to move the city. In February 1984, it was designated as Gwangju Metropolitan City’s Cultural Heritage Material No. 5.
