More model informationThis distal end of the left femur of a mastodon was 3-D scanned with a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner in August 2016 at the Western Science Center in Hemet, California. The Smithsonian Affiliations office supported this 3-D scanning endeavor. This mastodon femoral fragment and other associated bones date to 13,500 years ago and were found during construction that led to the creation of Diamond Valley Lake.
