Matcha and Wagashi (Green Tea and Japanese Confections)
My very first hand-painted food study!
I haven’t had one of these since 2011 when I lived in Japan for 1.5 month to do a language course. Before I left, our school had a tea ceremony (called sadō 「茶道」or “the way of the tea”). The tea itself is quite bittersweet in my opinion, but only if prepared correctly. We all had a go making one and a friend didn’t whisk the tea properly and hers had an unpleasant, straight-up bitter taste. The Wagashi, which are traditional Japanese confections, are usually served during these ceremonies to balance out the bitterness of the green tea. Together they taste magnificently heavenly, I can assure you!
So if you have the chance to travel to Japan, definitely try out the tea ceremony experience!
