About 5 years ago I worked on a 3D concept for Matea, a companion character for the main protagonist in the game I was dreaming up. This is my second attempt at bringing that concept to life. I started with base mesh of the original model, and took my sculpt grab brush and started creating better shapes from the geometry as a tidy up exercise. Which evolved into reworking pretty much every part of it. This time around I collated a lot of reference material - pine martens, red pandas, foxes, bears and even my cats were used.

This was all worked on in Blender, with a little colour tweaking in Krita. I used hair particles for the fur and exported a lower res version of that to a mesh for Sketchfab. Unfortunately I struggled to get a like for like this time :)
