More model informationThe 240 ft Material Service was built in 1929 specially as a low-profile sand and gravel hauler to haul loads from ports on Lake Michigan to build sites on the Chicago River without requiring river bridges to lift. It was converted to a self-unloader with a low-profile boom and collapsable A-frame. In 1936 in a bad summer storm carrying a load from Lockport, IL, it took a wave over the deck causing it to list badly and eventually sink killing sixteen crew. Today it is a popular dive site near Hammond, IN. The model was created from 4,999 30-megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman on two DPV dives in the 2025 season.
