More model informationThis 19th-Century Mauchline Ware Egg Timer was manufactured by W & A Smith of Mauchline (est.1810). One end features a transfer of Burns Cottage in Alloway Ayrshire - the birthplace of the Scottish National Bard Robert Burns (1759-1796). On the opposite end are four lines from Burns’s song ‘Rantin’ Rovin’ Robin’ (written in 1787).
W & A Smith of Mauchline cornered the market in souvenir woodware in response to the flourishing nineteenth-century cultural tourism industry.
This is the first 3D heritage model created as part of the Museums in the Metaverse project at the University of Glasgow: an Innovation Accelerator project to build a two-sided XR Cultural Heritage platform.
