Maudlins Cemetery Pyramid Mausoleum (1), Naas3D ModelNoAI
The Hussey Burgh mausoleum is one of two pyramid mausolea in Maudlins Church of Ireland Cemetery, Naas, Co. Kildare. It was commissioned by Walter Hussey Burgh of Donore, Naas, following the death of his 33 year old wife Elizabeth in 1834 - see the detailed model of coat-of-arms (https://skfb.ly/psyOu) for the text of an inscription on the back of the pyramid.
Maudlins is unique in Ireland in having two pyramid mausolea located in the same cemetery. The other mausoleum, the later of the two, was built c. 1840 by the Montgomery family of Naas (see model: https://skfb.ly/oHqtE).
The two Maudlins pyramids were the subject of a conservation project in 2020 led by The Follies Trust. The data for the model was captured in May 2023.
Possibly the best known of these pyramid mausolea is that of Kinnitty Co. Offaly. It was built c.1830-35 using the same construction technique of stones laid in diagonal courses.
