Saksan armeijan uudeksi jalkaväenkivääriksi vahvistettiin 1898 Peter Paul Mauserin suunnitelmien pohjalta kehitetty Mauser-kivääri. Se oli suomalaisten jääkäreiden perusase maailmansodan itärintamalla ja myös Suomessa keväällä 1918 toimineen saksalaisen Itämeren Divisioonan tärkein asetyyppi.

The Mauser rifle, which was developed on the basis of Peter Paul Mauser’s plans, was confirmed as the new infantry rifle of the German Army in 1898. It was the basic weapon for the Finnish Jaegers on the Eastern front of the World War and also the most important weapon type for the German Baltic Sea Division, which operated in Finland in the spring of 1918.
