Mechanical Insect

This was the result of a two week school project. It is some sort of a steampunk insect such as a grasshopper or cricket. Based on numerous references.

I started by modelling all the parts in a way they could be Subdivided. This gave me my High poly. I then made my Low/Mid poly by using only one level of Subdivisions and got rid of the unnecessary edge loops. This was done easily by using the ‘EdgeLoop’ tool in ZBrush.

The ornament on the upper leg for example was created by converting an image to a normal map using NDO from Quixel.
