Medieval altar rail (11th century - Zadar, CRO)3D Model
This Altar rail (cancelli) is the second of the two that have been found within the 11th-century church of St. John the Baptist in the Old Town of Zadar, Croatia. On both cancelli viewer can see the representation of Jesus Christ’s early life. This Pre-Romanesque altar rail can be divided to three compositions: Massacre of the Innocents, Flight into Egypt and Baptism of Jesus. Considering the artistic period they were made in, altar rails from St. Johns church are very specific. The reason for their uniqueness is the domination of human figures over ornamental elements which, in terms of Medieval art and architecture, was more characteristic for painting than stonemasonry.
Altar rail is currenlty part of the permanent exibitoion of the Archaeological Museum in Zadar, where it was scanned with Artec Eva handheld 3D scanner. Collected scanns were processed in Artec Studio.
