More model informationA medieval incomplete wooden churn from the cess pit described as the deep room during excavations on Cuckoo Lane, Southampton.
Have a look at the marks inscribed on the back face, the top is probably a maker’s mark. This was made on a lathe by a skilled craftsman who wanted people to recognise his work.
The churn has been laser scanned as part of a collaborative project between Southampton Cultural Services and the Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton.
