Medieval Floor Tile

A floor tile made of red pottery with white slip inlaid to form the design, and glazed with a lead glaze. The inscription can be translated as ‘the holy mind, honour freely rendered to God, and the liberty to the country’.

Made c.1400-1500 CE during the Medieval Period.

Found on the campus of the University of Nottingham, England, at the site of the deserted medieval village of Keighton.
