Meedin Church Window (WM033-040001-)3D ModelNoAI
The mid 19th-century Roman Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart at Meedian/Meedin (Mídín/possibly meaning meadow), parish of Clonfad, Co. Westmeath, is entered through a carved medieval pointed doorway (WM033-040----) in the north-east gable with a medieval four-light window above the entrance both of which appear to be 15th-16th century in date. The present R. C. Church was built on the site of an earlier T-plan Chapel. It is possible that the present medieval limestone doorway and window were taken from the nearby medieval church at Castlelost, Co. Westmeath (WM033-031----) and reused during the building of the present R. C. Church. The four-light ogee-headed window has a hood moulding above with decorative terminals in form of a vine-leaf motif and a spiral similar to the doorway below. The spandrels of the window head are decorated with a quarternary or four-cornered knot along with vine leaf motif.
