Melpomena’s mask is the stage mask, reproduced in the size of the original, which holds with her right hand Melpomena, the tragedy’s muse. The original statue is found in the Museum Louvre. The statue came from the Pompeii Theater in Campus Martius in Rome. It was restored as Melpomena, the Tragedy Muse, by adding a modern mask. So the mold from the Simu Museum was made after a modern addition. The statue also has a significance for the world of architecture because under it were presented the projects at Ecole des Beaux-Arts at the end of the nineteenth century (Melpomena Hall). The copy was part of Simu’s Museum, now is in our Museum of Architecture’s School from Bucharest.
