Merovingian Gold Tremissis Coin dated near 620AD
Found by Chris from ARCHI UK November 2017 in a field near Chelmsford, Essex, England. Actual size is around 1cm in diameter.
This 7th Century Merovingian Gold Coin (Tremissis) circa 640AD is characterised by an anchored Coptic cross on the reverse side. However, the lack of identifiable motifs on the obverse suggest that attempts may have been made to recast this coin.
