This year we were lucky enough to scan 40 ancient oak trees across the UK as part of the Woodland Trust funded SCATTER project in partnership with the Ancient Tree Forum (see @scatter.project for more models).

It would be very hard to choose a favourite tree but the Wyesham Oak in Monmouth is a success story for ancient trees. In a year where many have been threatened or lost owing to development, the Wyesham Oak is a shining example of how ancient trees can be incorporated into housing schemes, managed for longenvity and lovingly adopted by residents.

This was also the only tree to have a swing!
