Description: Hematite is an iron mineral crystallizing in the trigonal system; the most important ore of iron, it is dimorphous (i.e., describing two minerals that have the same chemical formula but are different in crystal structure) with Maghemite, occurs in black metallic-looking crystals, in reniform masses or fibrous aggregates, or in reddish earthy forms. Hematite is also known as bloodstone; red hematite; red iron ore; red ocher; or rhombohedral iron ore. Black crystals of Hematite may be confused with Ilmenite.
