Meunasah (village meeting hall)3D Model
This structure (MAHS-IND-ACH-PID-PBR-S-001-F-0001) is a meunasah, a traditional village meeting hall of a kind formerly common in Aceh. It was built in 1950 with a gabled roof and is used today only during celebrations of Muslim holidays. The ceiling above the south side features a painting of Buraq - a horse with a human head, wings, and a broad tail that features in traditional narratives of Muhammad’s ‘Night Journey’ and ascension through the heavens. The image of Buraq here is complemented with ornamental ropework and flower vine motifs in multiple colors are also found on another panel on the interior wall (annotations 1 and 2).
