Nel Parco della Vena del Gesso, le superfici esposte di gesso presentano una molteplicità di forme e modellamenti morfologici a differente scala. Quelle che vengono definite micro e nano forme, presentano un notevole interesse per i processi evolutivi coinvolti. In parte simili ai karren presenti sulle superfici carbonatiche, la loro genesi appare principalmente controllata dalle dinamiche di scorrimento dell’acqua sulla superfice gessosa. Nei gessi messiniani che caratterizzano il Parco della Vena del Gesso queste forme sono relativamente rare, rispetto ai gessi triassici microcristallini, in quanto controllate anche dalle dimensioni dei cristalli.
