Several rituals to preserve human spiritual purity are found in the culture and religion of Judaism. These rituals can be in the form of spiritual baths, called mikvot. The mikvot build a two-thousand-year-old Jewish ritual bath complex in Jerusalem, which is part of an excavation project located on Mount Zion near the Old City. Jerusalem is one of the oldest religious cities in the world and is part of the most important archaeological sites of the biblical antiquity. Despite numerous archaeological researches over the last two centuries in this area, no one has ever undertaken a detailed survey of the mikvot. Our work resumes and rectifies this failure. In cooperation with the German Protestant Institute of Archeology and the FH Potsdam, an extensive survey of the architectural elements of the ritual baths has taken place. The ritual baths are part of a restoration campaign that will start in May 2019! Aphva International e.V. and its members are going to realize this challenge!
