The sculpture of the Milkmaid stands in the park of Britz Palace since 1998.
The original is located in the former imperial garden of Tsarskoe Selo near St. Petersburg.
The young woman sitting on a stone, looking sadly down at her broken jug, is the work of the Russian sculptor Pavel Sokolov. The original was cast in 1816, and an early replica came to Glienecke Palace Park after 1827. The story of Milkmaid, told by Jean de LaFontaine in a fable in 1678, is about disappointed hope.
In 2020, the pitcher was stolen from the Britz fountain and is now being reconstructed as a replica casting.
