Outcrop in the Longframlington Common area, west of Millstone Burn, Northumberland.
This possible area of carved outcrop was first spotted during NADRAP surveys by Team 2, and added to ERA as ‘Millstone Burn N08’ in 2008. The NADRAP team describes:
“Horizontal outcrop above a cliff. Many signs of differential erosion but only a single cup-like depression, about 8 cm in diameter and 3 cm deep, possibly caused by natural erosion.”
Viewing the model, it appears the cup-like depression is central within a slight raised area, giving the impression of a ring. This is characteristic of cups found at various sites, and may possibility be an indication of intentionality.
