Milton Morenish Trench 1 3D Model
This model shows the first trench excavated at Milton Morenish crannog. The trench was located on the west side of the crannog mound where the sloping rubble matrix meets the natural loch bed. A wide range of timbers were found here, and we sampled a range of them. You can see which timbers are oak, due to their blackened heart wood. Other species tend to stay a brownish yellow, in particular alder. What we hope to uncover though this sampling is insight into the chronology of the site. Are we looking at timbers relating to a single phase of occupation? or are we looking at centuries, possibly millennia of development?
