This text telephone is a system to enable deaf or hard-of-hearing people to use a landline phone. It dates to the mid-1980s. In use the handset is put on the receiver or cradle.
The Minicom emits a sound when the keys are pressed which is converted into text that appears on the screen of other Minicom user.. When they type their words appear on the first user’s screen. This allowed two people who both had a Minicom to talk to one another through text scrolling along the screen in capital letters.
