This model was reconstructed from a volume T1 weighted MRI scan.
The frontal lobe is in transparent yellow. The temporal lobe is in transparent green. The parietal lobe is in transparent dark blue. The occipital lobe is in transparent pink. The ventricles are in light blue. The missing brain matter is in dark grey.
As you can see, the person is missing a sizable portion of his right temporal lobe. The damage is more extensive than that. The ventricular system is also very large for someone middle-aged. Due to the overall brain loss the individual has impaired judgement. Due to the loss of a good portion of one of his temporal lobes his memory is also compromised.
While this individual is not Autistic you can go to this article that discusses the “Mesial temporal lobe and memory function in autism spectrum disorder: An exploration of volumetric findings” and see the importance of the temporal lobe.
