Mississippi Alligator

One of two known species of alligator found in North America. It is considered endemic to the southeastern United States. This animal is a large crocodile-like reptile that lives in freshwater bodies such as lakes, rivers, and cypress swamps from Texas to North Carolina. The Mississippi Alligator differs from the sympatric American Crocodile in that it has a broader snout, darker coloration, and lower tolerance for salt water. Alligators are carnivores that eat fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and small mammals.
