More model informationThis is a high-resolution Digital Outcrop Model of the Mixiguana MAHLI target of the Marker Bed of Gale crater, Mars.
This model is made using 15 photos taken by the MAHLI instrument positionned on the robotic arm of the Curiosity rover.
These images were taken on sol 3644, in November 2022, and are available on the JPL MSL Raw images archive.
This fine sandstone shows a sulfate-rich composition, similar to what is seen from orbital observation in this region. Conspicuous undulating ripples are observed on this bed, highlighting a plausible deposition underwater, which is markedly different from the predominant aeolian setting of the sulfate unit in this area of Gale crater.
