Mjollnir - a legendary war hammer wielded by Thor- god of war and thunder, son of Odin, protector of Midgard… Also known in a form of popular pendant that was weared by Vikings to protect them in battle, give ‘em strnght and power. There are many findings of such pendants made of silver, brass or iron. Those findings differ in shape and form - some of them are very simple and minimalistic, some are intricately carved and decorated with tiny details… Thats about the historical and mythological background. This is my old model made by me several years ago when i was still using blender 2.49. After i learned about using nodes in the cycles renderer and the PBR workflow I made a quite new shader for casted metal such as pendants, old coins, and decorative patterns. It uses metallic workflow and combines procedural, photoshoppped and hand-drawn textures, pointiness calculated from the model geometry, and vertex color in a way that the result material mimics all the real life features of old and weared castng.
