The 2CB-18 “Mjölnir” lightning-projection weapon, generates electrical currents equivalent to those of a lightning strike. To generate a discharge of that magnitude, the power of two nuclear batteries is channeled into a zero-voltage switching circuit, which in turn drives flyback transformers, achieving voltages of about 10 MV. Additionally, bleeder resistors are installed into the weapon frame, in order to avoid any unwanted damage on itself or the vehicle it is mounted on. When fired, short-pulse lasers generate channels in the atmosphere through which the electrical current can reach its target, by the means of least resistance.
